Sun sees everything. It's one of the advantages of stillness. If you're still
long enough people will eventually forget you are there.
For instance she saw signs of Sawyer and Boone's relationship long before
Boone's accident. It was written in the flush of Boone's cheeks as he returned
from the jungle near Sawyer's tent and spelled out in the slow, satisfied smile
on Sawyer's face when he joined the circle around the fire at night just minutes
after Boone appeared. Though they aren't a match she would have considered, Sun
finds a delicate balance being struck with the two men.
She's not a silly woman, and she doesn't believe Boone has changed Sawyer
completely. There's still an edge to Sawyer that makes him a dangerous man. But
now that edge is tempered with a hint of Boone's generosity of spirit.
They remind Sun of her garden. A balance of Sawyer's earthiness to Boone's
soothing, calming rain. The sunshine of Sawyer's wicked humor and the strong
roots of Boone's kindness.
Whenever conversation among survivors comes round to Sawyer and Boone (as it
often does), there's always speculation about Sawyer's 'intentions' as well as
Boone's 'issues'. Everyone wanting to dissect what is between them. Sun doesn't
blame them for their gossip. They don't know better. They weren't there the
night Boone nearly lost his life. Sun was.
What she heard sent little shivers along her spine.
You're not going to die. I won't let you. You're mine. Death can just fuck off.
You hear me Sweetness? The only way you're getting rid of me is if *I* die.
That's it. You're not going anywhere.
The words said gruffly belying the whisper soft touch of Sawyer's fingers on
Boone's brow.
It wasn't until later – after Boone's heart stopped and Jack had to revive him
that Sun heard the rest.
Stay with me. You can't leave me alone. Stay. I've never needed anyone. But I
need you.
So Sun forgives the gossips, they don't know what she knows or seen what she's
seen. More importantly they haven’t heard what Sun heard.
